Embodiment / The Gathering

In Embodiment I take my fascination with found textures and turn it in on myself. I look to organically formed marks on my body – scars, pigmentation, wrinkles – and can trace experiences in my life. Time leaves its mark and my body preserves it. More specifically, the two expression lines between my eyebrows are well worn marks made by a particular feeling; an embodiment of my worry. Each print makes the immateriality of this emotion tangible. (2007)

A crease, a fold or a wrinkle is a place for things to gather physically. A black smudge or stain on a blank white page is a collection of pigment, but also an action caught in motion. It’s movement gathered into one moment, stopped. (2008)
